The ultimate in protection for a wide range of construction applications offering total waterproofing integrity for roofing, flooring, tanking, bridge decks and car parks. Manufactured to BS6925 and BS1147, the range includes polymer modified, acid and fuel resistant and available in a number of colours to provide a seamless solution in all situations.

One industry – zero carbon

In January 2008, UK mastic asphalt became the first industry in the world to achieve the CarbonZero standard.

Our 100 independent contractors, hauliers, installers and manufacturers are now 100% committed to reducing climate change by cutting the carbon footprint of any building, anywhere.

This means anyone choosing advanced mastic asphalt systems to waterproof their project will get a totally CO2 neutral solution – ideal for eco friendly developments.

The Mastic Asphalt Council’s Carbon 100 initiative also means thousands of associated sub-contractors will have to meet the strict CarbonZero standard.

Where has all the carbon gone

So, we hear you ask, how can an industry the size and scale of MAC – along with thousands of associated subcontractors – go completely CarbonZero?

With help from experts at co2balance, members first evaluated all their processes – from production to delivery and installation – cutting as many unnecessary carbon emissions as possible.

This left MAC with a 165kg surplus of carbon dioxide per tonne of mastic asphalt laid.

Through co2balance, council members are offsetting these harmful emissions by investing funds in energy efficient projects that absorb or prevent the exact tonnage of their Carbon Footprint.

These include:

Providing energy efficient bulbs in Kenya

Replacing kerosene lamps in East Africa with solar powered lanterns

Supporting sustainable forestation projects in the UK

We are proud to introduce a new variation on the proven product: mastic asphalt with a terrazzo finish, Guaraflex TF. Since the introduction of a clear bitumen, a broad range of vibrant colours have been available to give mastic asphalt a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, particularly beneficial when used in public areas. This has brought mastic asphalt back into the minds of architects and specifiers as a viable product when applying the finishing touches of their projects.

Now this idea has been taken a step further by removing the surface and exposing the inherent aggregate, thus giving a beautiful look whilst actually increasing the slip resistance of the surface.

The contrast of black and coloured bitumen with the variety of aggregates we have available, opens up a whole new world of options when requiring the durability and benefits of a monolithic mastic asphalt floor with the desire for a decorative finish. This product has been developed with the backing and collaboration of the Mastic Asphalt Council ( MAC ) to offer necessary credibility and technical back-up to such an important development within the industry.

Since the start of trialling the product, the uptake has been astonishing. Architects and Main Contractors have instantly reconised the benefit of using mastic asphalt in this way, due to his durability, the aforementioned monolithic state, unequalled environmental credentials:

Mastic Aspahlt is the first industry to become carbon neutral through the Carbon Zero campain and is 100% recyclable. It also carries a “AAA” fire rating, i sof course waterproof, and decorated in this manner, is largely maintenance-free. It is also rodent and rot proof, has no odour, does not require a float finished screed to lay on and can be trafficked within an hour of laying, thereby offering a fantastic time-saving for your programme.
