Green Roofs

A ‘green’ or ‘living’ roof is essentially the growing of plants on our rooftops cooling and retaining heat in buildings according to different climates. Intensive, Extensive and Bio- diverse or brown roof create natural growing conditions across the roof from a thin growing layer of sedums and mosses to plants, trees, shrubs, water features and even golf courses. The vegetation has numerous advantages such insulation, habitat for wild life, rainwater control, noise control and many more.

EXTENSIVE

Lightweight, low cost and maintenance, drought tolerant using planted with sedums, grasses, mosses and meadow flowers that require little irrigation or fertilisation to insulate buildings, reduces noise and rainwater runoff whilst providing a habitat for wildlife on limited access roofs.

INTENSIVE

Can be thought of as a Garden on a roof with lots of shrubs, flowers even trees along with walkways and flowerbeds, it is heavier and needs more support and is more expensive.  Deeper growing medium can sustain complex landscapes, including small trees and even small ornamental ponds and fountains.

BIO-DIVERSE OR BROWN ROOFS

Providing habitat and food that supports local and rare species of plants, animals and invertebrates often missing from redevelopment and helps partly mitigate the loss of habitat by covering the flat roofs with a layer of locally sourced material and vegetation which allows nature to re-colonise these spaces that under threat.

MODULAR GREEN ROOF VEGETATION CARRIER

Supplying fully established instant green roof surface to any size of roof and specification.    Size 1m X 500mm with water retaining cuplets and bio-filter fixed to vegetation carrier.   The growing medium consists of peat free compost, recycled sand, leca, pea shingle, and supplied with established sedum planting, between 6 – 8 varieties, into the roof media.
